Based on abundant new materials of Peipiaosteus pani, rnany features are newly described, they include: rostral bones, circumorbital series, the ectopterygoid process of the maxilla, quadratojugals, branchial toothplates, axial skeleton, fulcra and epiaxial fin-rays on the caudal fin. A few other features such as the hyomandibula and branchiostegal are revised. The ontogenetic and taphonomic characters of Peipiaoszeus indicate that it probably assumed a habit of migration like its extant descendants. A review of the differences between P. pani and P. fengnengensis shows that all the differences except the dorsal and anal fin-ray numbers proposed by Bai (1983) are not true or remain uncertain. Through comparison, Stichopzerus is included in the revised family: Peipiaosteidae. Finally, a review of the phylogeny of Acipenseriformes results in a conclusion of Peipiaosteidae and Acipenseridae as sister groups.

As dinosaurs were oviparous animals, incubation of their eggs was the essential procedure during their reproduction. Physiologically, eggshell microstructures were bound to adapt to the nest environments during incubation if embryos normally developed. Gas conductance estimated from eggshell morphology can provide evidence for the environment conditions in nests. Seymour (1979) first estimated gas coaductance of dinosaur eggs from France and Mongolia and indicated that the nest environments of these eggs were all high in humidity, low in oxygen and high in carbon dioxide. Such conditions most likely occurred underground or within incubation mounds. Williams et al. (1984) found similar nest environments of four kinds of dinosaur eggs from Aix Basin in southern France. Some papers about dinosaur eggs indicated that the extinction of dinosaurs would be related to their reproduction (Erbcn, 1970; Erben, Hoeffs et al. 1979; Zhao, 1978; Zhao, Ye et al. 1991). Thus further investigations about reproduction of dinosaurs in Late Cretaceous might be significant. This paper will reconsider the relationship between dinosaur eggs and their environments.

From the same beds in the east of Tongxin County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, where the large Kubanochoerous had been found (Qiu et al., 1988), some Bunolistriodon jaws and teeth were recently discovered. These specimens have been assigned to B. imermedius. The new material enables us to discuss in more detail the possible relationships between the so-called intermediate "Listriodon" and lophodont listriodons.

Some specimens of arvicolid rodents were collected from the Hexian hominid site but not recorded in the list of the original mammalian fauna (Zheng Shaohua, 1982, 1983) and Huang Wanbo et al., 1982) due to their particularity unknown at that time. The genus Hexianomys named by these specimens in the monograph about the mammalian fauna from the Hexian hominid site was first mentioned by Zheng and Li in 1990 and quoted by Repenning et al. at the same time and by Zheng and Han in 1991. The name Hexianomys, however, has become invalid with the delayed publication of the monograph. In order to avoid further confusion, I have to. use a new generic and species name Huananomys variabilis to replace the previous Hexianomys complicidens and offer independently it in this paper considering its important position in the Arvicolidae. The material of this new genus in the literature include those from not only the Hexian but also the Tianqiao locality of Guizhou. In this paper, the stress will be put on the description of the specimens from the Hexian hominid site.

Some material of Protitan is discovered by the staffs of IVPP and Dinosaur Museum of Erlianhot city from Late Eocene Tukhum beds in Erden Obo (Urtpn Obo) area of Siziwangqi, Nei Mongol during the summer field season of 1991. This is the first discovery of giant mammal from Tukhum beds in Shara Murun area. The material includes a third lower molar and several isolated bones. All of them are found in one square meter, and we believe that they represent an individual (V10104—1 VPP number). At present, a total of 4 species are found in Tukhum beds: I. Teilhardia pretiosa; 2. Lophialetes expeditus?; 3. Protitan sp. (V10104); 4. a small carnivore (unpublished).
